Inspiration: Art Podcasts!
December 26, 2022I usually paint in silence. This is my way. It helps me focus on the task. I simply dive into my process and allow it to dissolve me into background. Often people don’t hear me speaking even two words together for a long time, until I emerge from the studio. And during the creative hours I also rarely speak to anyone that comes in. Minimum information, maximum efficiency. But there are times I gladly welcome some distraction, especially when my painting requires a break or additional thinking over. Then I either listen to music or my favorite radio programs (I plan on writing a blog post about it soon) or I go for podcasts. Art podcasts, of course.
I have a few favorite art podcasts I listen to on regular basis. They boost my inspiration and creative thinking. They also helped me a lot in figuring out the technical nuances about around-art job like marketing, web development, or social media. I gladly share the list with anyone who’s interested. All podcasts from the list are available on official websites (links below), on Spotify and, as I believe, on Apple Podcasts.
They are my personal choices, that I recommend to any person who thinks seriously about their creative carrier:
• Art Juice - highly rated and very popular. “Honest, generous and humorous conversations to feed your creative soul and get you thinking” with abstract artists: Alice Sheridan and Louise Fletcher.
• Art2Life - hosted by great artist Nicolas Wilton who is sharing stories, insights, and inspiring talks with creatives from all walks of life from painters, writers, filmmakers, thought leaders, and all those just super passionate about sharing their wisdom of self-discovery.
• The Art Biz - by Alyson Stanfield. Art career inspiration and ideas. The author helps you be a more productive artist, a more empowered artist, and a more successful artist.
• The Savvy Painter - by Antrese Wood. Ranking in the top 30 of art podcasts. Listen to top artists, authors, and visionaries share their insights, nitty gritty details about their creative process, and what really goes on behind the scenes.
• The Artist Business Plan - practical weekly business advice for artists from industry pros, in around 30 minutes. Hosted by Superfine Art Fair CEO Alex Mitow and co-founder James Miille.
• Beyond the Studio - the Nicole Mueller and Amanda Adams’s podcast about the work that happens behind the scenes for visual artists and makers. It’s how they’re supporting and sustaining themselves and their creative work.
• Laura Horn Art Podcast - Laura Horn is a watercolor artist and creative entrepreneur who shares her knowledge about art, art techniques, business and social media.
• Own it! - the most humorous entrepreneurial podcast for artists and creative businesses by Nicola Cairncross and Judith Morgan. All about what’s inspired, impressed and infuriated the authors in the art world, marketing and money tips, tools and techniques.
I hope thanks to this small list you’ll find something new for yourself, that you may listen while spending long hours in your studio or being stuck in the “desert of blah” when you really need a boost of inspiration. Give it a go! Happy listening everyone, and stay creative!
